Beijing Reportedly Mulls Visa Restrictions on US Officials, Could Ban US Diplomats From Xinjiang

US senators voted unanimously last month in support of the new legislation allowing the US president and various government agencies to review human rights conditions annually and punish China over alleged violations. A similar bill was passed in the US House of Representatives unanimously in October.

Editor-in-chief of Chinese and English editions of the Global Times Hu Xijin said Tuesday, citing sources that Beijing could impose “visa restrictions on US officials and lawmakers who’ve had odious performance on Xinjiang issue”.

​Earlier on Monday, China slapped punitive measures on the US in retaliation for its backing of the violent protests in Hong Kong, announcing sanctions on NGO’s and suspending visits by US warships and aircraft.
